Since we’re now equipped with all the necessary gear and lures, let’s learn more about today’s star, the Comet Grouper! Its unique name comes from its distinctive appearance: a robust body, a large mouth, and a deep brown or reddish-brown color with lighter spots that may resemble comets. The Comet Grouper is a predatory species that primarily feeds on smaller fish and invertebrates. They’re ambush predators, blending their camouflage into their surroundings before striking at unsuspecting prey. They’re found in the Indo-Pacific region, from the eastern coast of Africa, including the Red Sea, across to the central Pacific Ocean. They tend to inhabit coral reefs and rocky areas, typically at depths ranging from shallow waters to about 100 meters.

Due to their striking appearance and size, Comet Groupers are not uncommon in the aquarium trade. However, they require large tanks and specific care to thrive in captivity. If any anglers with us are also hobbyists, don’t hesitate to reach out to us with some photos of your Comet Groupers if you have them in your aquariums! Of course, once you conquer the Comet Strike Event in Fishing Clash!
