Fishing at the Majestic Victoria Falls

Published: April 2, 2024

Along the Zambezi River, on the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe, stands the world’s largest sheet of falling water: an awe-inspiring backdrop for what promises to be our most unforgettable fishing experience yet. Welcome to Victoria Falls, Fishing Clash’s latest fishery: a majestic sight surrounded by the richness of local culture and the next stop on our angling adventure!

Victoria Falls is locally known as “Mosi-oa-Tunya,” which translates to “The Smoke That Thunders.” The name is derived from the colossal spray and mist that the falls generate as the mighty Zambezi River plummets over a cliff and into the gorge below. The sheer volume of water cascading down creates a thunderous roar, audible from far away, and a cloud of mist that rises high into the air, resembling smoke from a great fire. This mist can be seen from distances of up to 20 kilometers (12.5 miles), creating a captivating spectacle that seems to blend the elements of fire and water. In this way, Mosi-oa-Tunya, or Victoria Falls, welcomes all visitors from afar – whether just to see the remarkable sights, learn about the surrounding culture, or align themselves with nature while holding a fishing rod.

The year 1855 was an important one for the future of the falls: this was when they were revealed to David Livingstone, a Scottish explorer, who decided to rename them Victoria Falls in honor of Queen Victoria. It is believed that the local Tonga people assisted the explorer in navigating through the African wilderness and eventually witnessing the marvel of this natural phenomenon. This also opened Mosi-oa-Tunya to a broader global community and paved the way for it to be named one of the wonders of the natural world nearly two centuries later.

To this day, Victoria Falls remains a popular tourist destination, but our visit isn’t just to sightsee, and we’re not planning on leaving anytime soon! Our task is to become familiar with the inhabitants of the Zambezi River. Fishing Clash’s designers have selected a perfect spot for us to cast our rods and experience the blissful joy of fishing at Victoria Falls. This time around, we’re catching fish from the river’s bank in the company of a majestic sable antelope, Zimbabwe’s national animal (and a great fishing buddy!), while overlooking the breathtaking falls before us. Among the many fish species we will encounter, reel in, and add to our collections at Victoria Falls, we’ll find the Silver Catfish, the Zambezi Parrotfish, the Pike Characid, the Southern African Pike, and the Three-Spotted Tilapia. As always, there are plenty of other fish in store for our anglers, each beautifully designed and arriving with an accurate trivia description, to ensure that online fishing with Fishing Clash isn’t just an enjoyable endeavor, but also an educational one!

As always, the new fishery comes with Events connected to the various features that you can already enjoy in the game. Our goal is to make the Victoria Falls fishing experience a grand adventure for our anglers so that the visit to this gem of Southern Africa becomes a memorable one! So, let’s be off on our next Fishing Clash adventure! Mosi-oa-Tunya awaits!
