Earth Week and World Water Day are both important dates in the Ten Square Games calendar
Earth Week and World Water Day are both important dates in the Ten Square Games calendar. The company has been supporting environmental causes all around the world over the years. This time, Ten Square Games decided to honor the occasions by partnering with Planet Play and WAI Wanaka as well as the Open Eyes Economy Summit.
Ten Square Games partnered with PlanetPlay, a not-for-profit climate-conscious marketplace, and New Zealand NGO WAI Wanaka to have the Fishing Clash team create an in-game event dedicated to cleaning New Zealand’s virtual waterways. The objective was to raise funds for the cleaning of the real waterways.
During the event, which started on April 17th, players were challenged to fish out trash from the game’s New Zealand fishery, gradually returning it to its original look. If they complete the community goal, Ten Square Games will donate $30,000 to the Teeny Tiny Truth waterway project, which monitors the number of microplastics in New Zealand’s waterways with the help of fly fishers.
“We received incredibly positive feedback for our Amazon and Save the Oder events last year, so it was only natural to celebrate Earth Week with another event like it this year.”- said Olga Ostrowska, Operations and Sustainability Manager at Ten Square Games. “Events like this are a win-win for everyone. Players get unique entertainment from the game while learning about saving marine biodiversity, and we support an amazing project in an extremely important mission. I’m really looking forward to seeing our players engage with what we have in store for them.”- she adds.
In last year events in Fishing Clash and Hunting Clash players cleaned up virtual environments, with the end result being a donation to Ecosia and 60,000 trees being planted.
“We believe that as a company, we have a duty to use our resources to support environmental causes on both a local and global level. WAI Wanaka’s project is naturally aligned with our goals, as it’s not just a great help for local water biodiversity, but it also involves the fishing community, which we are glad to be a part of it.” – Olga Ostrowska explains.
For World Water Day, the company supported the creation of award-winning journalist and documentarian Ewa Ewart’s film “Until the Last Drop”. The documentary intends to raise awareness about the upcoming drinking water crisis and thus pressure decision-makers into taking action to avoid it. The film, supported by the Open Eyes Economy Summit, premiered on World Water Day (March 22nd, 2023) on TVN24, Poland’s largest privately-owned news channel.
“Ewa Ewart’s film tackles an issue that hits particularly close to home for us. It doesn’t just tell the story of rivers, which are a source of entertainment for many of Fishing Clash players. It also shows last year’s Oder River catastrophe, which heavily affected Wrocław, where our headquarters are located.” – Ostrowska says. “Last year, Ten Square Games donated 100 000 PLN to the Polish Anglers Union to support their efforts of restocking the 2nd largest Polish river. Supporting a documentary showing that issue and inspiring us to take action was a natural follow-up.” – she adds.
